The minimum ingress protection for this type of protection is IP54, but equipment constructed to provide IP55 must be fitted with a breathing device.
Where use is in clean, dry environments only (equipment certified with the suffix ‘X’). the ingress protection may be reduced to IP43.
The size of granules for the filling material must be within a range specified in the standards, and the filling material is required to withstand an electric strength test where the leakage current must not exceed one microamp.
The standards specify minimum clearance distances between electrically conducting parts and insulated components or the inner surface of the enclosure wall.
Only Ex “q” equipment having a complete certificate shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s documentation.
Ex “q” enclosure or component that has only component certificate (marked “U”) is not allowed to be installed in hazardous area unless it is part of an assembly of components in an equipment that has a full Ex certificate with the “X” and equipment label has full “Ex” marking including temperature class.
